Election 2020: 10 Confessions to Save America

Isaiah 58: 8-9
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
God of Creation: Father, Lord, and Holy Spirit:

Your Word humbles me. I confess that:
  1. I have preconceived ideas about how You will (should) move in the election scandal. But Your ways are not mine…I have boxed You into my desires. Forgive me.
  2. My desire to see the lies exposed has been more important than Your desire that all men be saved.
  3. Although I realized these people, who stand in the way of justice, are not the enemy, and I have recognized that they are being used, but I have not consistently pleaded for their release from these chains.
  4. I have asked for Your mercy on those of us who want righteousness, but not pleaded before Your throne of grace for the souls who unwittingly serve the Father of Lies.
  5. I have held frustration and anger in my heart towards people who are being manipulated by the enemy and in turn want to manipulate others.
  6. I have not considered that You, Jesus came to save the lost and Your love for them has not wavered.
  7. I have prayed for those whom You have justified, rather than for those who need to be freed from the tight grip of Satan.
  8. I have been exasperated at the mainstream news media and that so many have been mesmerized and bought in to their lies.
  9. I have desired the Tech Giants to be humbled (harshly) for their horrific use of power, rather than they find salvation and use their power for Your kingdom.

  10. Above all, I have been deceived as I thought that Truth and Justice, both from You…are more important than the saving of the souls and bringing in the harvest for the Kingdom of Christ.
  11. Forgive me. I confess these and other oversights and repent before You.

Forgive me for getting things backwards and putting Truth and Justice first, rather than Your love and care and desire that all men be saved.

Forgive me for considering Truth and Justice now — when Your Word clearly tells me it will come in due time. I realize that when a believer in Jesus falls, the Kingdom of Christ is not diminished. When a non-believer dies, the Kingdom of Christ is robbed forever. My job is to bring people to Christ, to the point of decision and not try to implement Truth and Justice…because You don’t need help there. You have commissioned us to make disciples. Thank You for the course correction.
Matthew 9:37-38 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.
You are Lord of the Harvest! Truly, with all the people who are isolated, with the intense division in every facet of our society, so many people are yearning to hear and receive TRUTH! Hallelujah!

God of all creation - gather us together to reap the harvest. Bring Your own to fervent prayer for the lost souls, for those who are struggling, for our political situation and all those involved. Especially in our political arenas!

Open our eyes to see the hotbeds where Your presence through us will direct people to seek You. Show us those who are desolate and grant us prayers that are meaningful and that delight Your heart. Give us hearts and prayers that excite You to action — and that the harvest for the Kingdom of Your Messiah, our Christ is plentiful. Fill us - all Your people! Fill us to desire the 100-fold harvest and not settle for less.

I come on bended knee, grateful for Your care and guidance. Make me a good servant and by Your Spirit, may my service be “well done."

Draining the swamp...the prayers of one sinner

*** We have the government we deserve.
1 Timothy 2: 1-2
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father, You exhort us to fervently pray, intercede and to give thanks...for kings and those in authority so that we can live peaceably, in godliness and honesty.

This nation is not living peaceably, nor in godliness or honesty...surely, therefore, we must conclude that we have not prayed, interceded, or given thanks for kings and those in authority. So we have the government we deserve. This is a very hard thing to swallow. I am a fault.

I did not pray when prayer was taken from the schools, when abortion was legalized, when family was redefined, or when indiscretion filled the government. I confess, and I repent. I will pray for this nation, its leaders, and those in authority.

Father, this nation has turned from Your ways. It has gone so far that now there is a swamp. We need Your help. You have promised:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
So I humbly confess sin before You. I ask for prayers for our leaders...from small towns to the Capitol. I am seeking You. I am asking for Your guidance in prayer, that this nation can turn from its ways...so that You may hear, forgive, and heal this land.

We cannot do this without Your help. So I'm asking.

Deception seems rampant. We can't tell truth from fiction. Indiscretion in the socialsphere is rampant, without thoughtful filters. It seems impossible to find truth. Yet, Jesus, You are Truth.
John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
How do we speak You, speak Truth, into this nation? Do we even want to know the truth? ...or do we just want to believe what we want. Father, we have become a self-serving nation. Help Lord! Turn our hearts, soften our resolve and penchant for our own desires.

Father, it has become so incredibly confusing about what can be believed. I ask that Truth rise up. Where can it be found? I ask that, as a nation, we come before Your throne of grace and plead for mercy. I ask that we rise up en masse and seek You, seek Truth, and speak Truth.

I ask that You move in the hearts of Your church. Rile us up. Work within us that we may be disturbed by what we see and hear. May we find our nation unconscionable. May we cease to be silent before You.

Raise up Your church to confess and repent from our silence. Raise up Your church to take a stand for Jesus Christ, first in our own lives, our own prayer closets.

Father, where are the pastors? Where is the church leadership? Many are silent. This should not be. Help us to change. In Your mercy, cause discomfort within us that we might turn from our wicked ways. Teach us our part that we seek and stand for Truth as a nation, once again.

Thank You for this nation. Thank You for the years where You blessed us as the greatest nation in the world. Thank You for the prosperity that You have bountifully poured out. Thank You that we can look back and compare where are now, with where we were when we honored You.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

A nation of consumers... the prayers of one sinner

*** like locusts we consume the land. ...a prayer for restraint and moderation.
Leviticus 18:28-30
28 That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.

Proverbs 25:16
Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

You have given us a beautiful land, to enjoy and to care for ourselves and our families. We have done so and we have consumed and given place to excess. Our consumption knows no bounds. Please forgive us. We have prospered because of Your overabundance. Your provision has been lavish. Yet Your word indicates that You have prospered us with purpose:
Deuteronomy 15:11
For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.
Your provision for me has been generous. Thank you. You have given me more than I need, yet I have chosen to use the excess for myself. Somehow, in my careless thinking, I have found ways to create "desire" and I convince myself that it is a need and that I must have it. Please forgive me.

Although I open my hand to the needy as You command me to do, it is a small token of the excess that You have poured out on me. I am a part of a nation that is never satisfied. For the most part, I buy stuff that I have convinced myself that I must have. ...rather than live in moderation and help those who have so little. Please forgive me.

I am a thoughtless consumer. When I want something, I buy it. Please help me to change.

We have become an all-consuming nation that is never satisfied and I am a contributor. There is never enough. Truly it is because we look to ourselves to define our needs and we have abandoned the guidance from Your Word. We no longer look to You to define our wants. We no longer desire self-restraint or moderation. Please forgive us and restore our sensibilities.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

The sins of a nation ...the prayer of one sinner

*** And they will know we are Christians by our love
Proverbs 6:16-19
These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

It is confusing—perhaps I make it so. You are love, yet You are justice. Your love for us gave us the Lord Jesus Christ to demonstrate obedience and provide the way to eternal salvation for our souls — yet, You anger over sin and there is a comprehensive list of what You hate:
  • Pride
  • Lying
  • Shedding innocent blood
  • Wicked hearts
  • Mischievous activities
  • A false witness
  • Those that sow discord.
I look at this list and I know I am guilty.

I have been prideful, looking at those who try to escape their reality with drug and addictions; those engaged in the sex industry and trafficking; those who uphold and promote sexual confusion—especially with children... and what have I done? I have said in my heart, "Thank you that I am not like those sinners." What a smokescreen. It is pride. Please forgive me.

You hate lying and I have truly lied to myself...every time I looked at the sin of others and didn't pray for them...even a short mutter under my breath... I lied to myself when I thought, "There's nothing I can do!" ...I could have prayed and I should have done so. I haven's sought You on how to love them. Please forgive me.

...and abortion continues. There is no way that I am innocent of this, because I haven't been diligent in praying for those making a decision to abort, those who work in the industry, those who have power to change the laws. ...I have lied to myself when I thought there was nothing I could do... I could have prayed.

You hate wicked hearts... and there are daily reportings of terrorists acts. I cannot plead, "I didn't know." ...surely, I am so aware of so much that it is overwhelming. The wickedness cannot be denied. I have not prayed for those caught up in terrorism. I haven't even muttered a prayer for the victims and their families. Please forgive me.

You hate mischievous activities and a false witness. The reports from our government seem stuffed to the brim with power agendas, clever ploys, lies, leaking of information... the list is endless. It is mischievous and when I don't pray for them, I become a part of it—a participant. Please forgive me. Change me.

You hate those that sow discord...Oh Father, this happens in our churches, our neighborhoods, our communities...is it any wonder that the discord of Congress struggles to find unity? Change me into a unifier. Change ME. Change many...

It is the "age-old" question. How am I to love?
John 13:5
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
I can, at the very least... pray.
Do You hear the brief mutterings under my breath? I think so.

Help me. Help this nation, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

What we must do to change the U.S.

*** How Washington became what it is today...and it should be no surprise to us. Here is what we must do.
Proverbs 28:13 (KJV)
13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

It should be no surprise to us that Washington, the seat of our government, has become what it is today. Although this nation was founded on the principles of Your Word, we have turned. Although You have prospered us in every way, we have enjoyed Your prosperity, while crediting ourselves, and turning away from Your ways. We have grown fat and lethargic in every area of our lives.

We have not protected the pathway that brought us prosperity. We have fallen away.

We have given up humility and thanksgiving and replaced them with pride. The love of many has grown cold. We have become weak and forsaken our right to worship You. We have not loved our children enough to teach them Your Word, Your wisdom, Your justice, Your righteousness. We have put government as the center of our deliverance and we have not fervently prayed for Your protection on those who govern. Forgive us.

Surely, as we have gone about our days and our interests, and as we have forsaken Your ways, and as we have not worked diligently to preserve our relationship as One Nation Under God, it should come as no surprise to us that our nation has come to this place:
– We redefined success to be what we buy...and became a consumer nation
– We allowed our national debt to exponentially skyrocket
– We allowed prayer to be taken out of our schools
– We chose divorce rather than honoring our covenants
– We allowed marriage to be redefined
– We chose abortion rather than be inconvenienced
...and so many more.
Surely, we have forsaken Your ways. We have not prayed for our leaders; in our government, our churches, and our communities. We have created the government that now brings such folly. We have forsaken You. We are the cause of our current situation.

Call us to repent. Call us to change and may we respond with humility and thanksgiving. Let us rise up and take ownership and call upon You to heal our land.
2 Chronicles 7:14
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
Father, I confess that I have enjoyed the privileges that have come to me because I am an American. Thank You that I grew up in this nation. I confess that I grew up with prayer in the schools, but I did nothing when it was removed. Forgive me. Help me to repent.

I confess that I have watched the moral decay of this nation and stood back, justifying my lethargy with the words, "God told us the world would turn from Him." You command me to pray for the peace of Jerusalem, yet, I justify not doing so, thinking there can be no peace. Forgive me. Help me to repent.

The abortion rate continues and these people are Your inheritance. I have done nothing to help. At times, I have disdained the abortion industry, but I have not prayed for those caught in its lair. Forgive me. Help me to repent.

Divorce has become so commonplace that young people have no interest in marriage. I know of couples who are challenged in their marriage, but I have not prayed, or offered support. I have come to accept divorce as commonplace. Even though I know that You can change and heal relationships, I have not called upon You. Forgive me. Help me to repent.

Father, I know that debt is not the way of Your scripture. I allowed personal debt to get out of hand. Surely, it is no wonder that our national debt is now out of hand. I am part of the cause of it. Forgive me. Help me to repent.

This nation can not change on its own. Only through You can there be healing in this land. I can not change on my own. Only through You can I be healed. Teach me to repent. Teach the U.S. to repent. I appeal to You.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

Jeremiah prayers —for the USA ...No. 8

***How long O Lord? ...what would delight You each day in this nation?
Jeremiah 18:8
8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
Please pray with me:

Father,
How long has it been? Decades? ...and this nation continues along our path of evil ways.

We are so different from China. Their evil came from leadership. Their oppression came from the top down. Where does ours come from here in the U.S.? It seems to come from within. Prayer gone from our schools. We taught entire generations NOT to pray. Forgive us.

The people from China are oppressed and North Korea as well. Here in the U.S., the people oppress each other, fighting for their own evil ways to meet their current agenda. Father, every generation seems to push the gamut. We have embraced evil and outwardly defied You. Forgive us.

How does a people shift in their thinking? Have the shepherds, the pastors, pastored? Have the teachers taught comfort? Has the prosperity gospel turned us to our own evil desires?
Is it even possible to repent? HELP LORD!
Have there been great revivals under these circumstances? Can they begin here? How? Surely, You would not leave the harvest...for it is Your will that all men be saved.

Ignite leaders who would teach and lead in repentance. Create an army of stealth warriors, to support these leaders.

Father, what would delight You each day in this nation? How can I help?

You beckoned Jeremiah NOT to pray for Your people. What about the U.S.? We repeatedly turn to our evil and throw it in Your face. Our intentions have become an abomination.
Save those who serve You.
Enable us to preach the Gospel.
If You cannot relent, then activate us, that we serve You and have no regrets.
Have we heard Your warning?
I trust that it is so ...
or perhaps many who heard it, have covered their ears
     ...and the ears of others.
Help Lord. Save us. Save me, Save the U.S.
...that You may again delight in us.
Up gird us to endure faithfully to the end. Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

Jeremiah prayers —for the USA ...No. 7

***Is this nation now a parched place in the wilderness?
Is it now uninhabitable?
Jeremiah 17:10
I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
Please pray with me:

Father, You search our hearts. You test our minds and You know all there is about us. How can we do other than stand in fear?

What do You see when You test our minds? What is it like for You to search the hearts of this nation? When You test our minds, how do we respond?

Surely it must grieve You. Father, Our nation...are we now reprobate in our thinking? We despise what You love: righteousness. We deem ourselves able to establish righteousness and we execute our judgement, instead of Yours.

We pronounce our wisdom to be greater than Yours. We raise ourselves and our discernment to be righteousness.

We engage in every folly and we stand back in joyful pride. We, as a nation, have declared ourselves god. How can we, as a nation, repent? Is it possible?
You know, O God.

You give every person according to his ways and according to the fruit of his doings. ...What is our fruit, O Lord? What have we done?

Surely the ways of this nation have become wicked and the fruit of our doings are full of blaspheme and all that You abhor. Is there to be a harvest here? ...or must this nation burn?

Your people wait on You, O Lord —do not tarry. Have mercy on us. Give us Your heart for those who serve You. Encamp around us that we may keep our hearts and minds aligned with Your will.

O Holy Spirit, cause the Light of Christ to shine bright to all who would see and desire. May we be impermeable testimonies of Your Truth, Your love and Your care. Embrace us with Your presence and comfort us as we see the vileness of this land.

Hold our testimonies of Christ strong and fill our mouth with life-giving words for those who might hear and turn to You.

Up gird us to endure faithfully to the end. Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

Jeremiah prayers —for the USA ...No. 6

***Is this nation now a parched place in the wilderness? Is it now uninhabitable?
Jeremiah 17:5-8
5 Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord.
6 For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.
8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,
Is this nation now a parched place in the wilderness? Has this land become uninhabitable? Are our eyes and hearts so distorted that we cannot see when good comes?

How can we turn to trust in You? Surely those of us of faith, have not protected our land. Wh have not prayed for those in authority. Do we even know how to repent? Father, do as You will, that we may know that You are the Lord God.

What must happen that we become like a tree planted by the waters? How do we become a nation, whose hope is the Lord?

Have our roots rotted away? How can they again spread out to receive the living water? Must we fear the heat? Do we even know how to do so?

Sculpt us, O God, to again be like this green tree that trusts in You and does not fear the drought ...because our roots grow deep in You.

Must we endure persecution to grow deep roots? If persecution comes, will it help us to once again bear good fruit? Do I dare ask You to send destruction —to grow us as tress? I appeal to You.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

Jeremiah prayers —for the USA ...No. 5

***Do we, as a nation value deception over truth? Are we led by the media, choosing to believe the deception of evil?
Jeremiah 17:9
9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
10 I the Lord search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father, You are the God of righteousness, of purity, of holiness. You are the One True God, who knows the hearts of men, yes, even the thoughts and intentions in our minds and hearts. Nothing is hidden from You. You have created us and know even the very hairs of our head. Truly, nothing is beyond Your understanding and knowledge.

You, O God, search our heart. There are so many among us who are determined to promote their agendas. There is, indeed, intense wickedness in this land. You know the collective consciousness of the USA. Have we chosen a seared conscience? Is there any way back? Is there a way for this nation to return to You? Father, I am afraid for the United States. Have mercy.

You are truth, and You hate lies. The men and woman in our national media, promote deception and have made a movement promoting their own agenda. There is no truth in them as they wield their power against authority. Are they seditious traitors to this land? You know O Lord.

Your Word tells us that You choose the kings of a nation:
Daniel 2:21
20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
The adamant division in this land is poignant. It seems that hatred rumbles just below the present. Father, we MUST believe Your Word. You have chosen our leadership and You command us to pray for those in authority. May Your church rise up and commit ourselves to praying before Your throne of grace both day and night.

Father, what are the underlying forces that push against this nation to take it from our roots of trusting in You? Surely, they are in control of the media and have great power. They are saturated in deception and promote lies. They wield power and are resolute on pushing their agenda that loves what You hate and hates what You love. Truly, only through Your hand, can they be stopped. Speak the Word and it shall be done.

Do we, as a nation value deception over truth? Are we led by the media, rather than truth?

Rise up, O God of glory and of might. Rise up and save us. Cause those who hate You to be caught in their own nets. Expose the deception of the wicked and expose their wickedness to the public. Raise up the hearts and minds of Your own, to seek You, day and night, and pour out our hearts. God have mercy.

May we repent with a contrite heart and humble ourselves before You, that we may again be pleasing in Your sight.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

Jeremiah prayers —for the USA ...No. 4

***Do we glory in our wisdom? Our power? Our riches? Our knowledge? Nay...let us glory in knowing God!
Jeremiah 15:19-21
19 Therefore thus saith the Lord, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.

20 And I will make thee unto this people a fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the Lord. 21 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

God of Heaven, gracious, glorious and ever-faithful. You have embedded purpose in each day that includes all those who call You Abba through the Name of Jesus Christ. You are the God who transforms our thinking and make us givers. You give us all that we have.

Transform our lives to be life-speakers. Fill us with kindness, transform us, strip us of ourselves. Give us a thick skin —that offense falls quickly to the ground before it can mature.

Jesus, who bore my sin, my sin —be my cover. Give me eyes to see deeply .You looked deeply into me and found the value that You planted therein. You dusted it, cleaned it, restored it, that something in me would fellowship with You and serve You. You are my joy. I come.

Make me a life-listener, hearer and speaker. Take my heart and give me eyes to see deeply. You are life. Speak life through me. You are hope. Speak hope through me. You are help. Help me to help.

I can do none of this on my own, please shine through me. Live in me; cleanse me of me and use me for Your purpose.

You are my safety and in You I rejoice. To You I look for every need.

If You are with the United States, we will prevail. I look to You alone for help. For You will deliver us from wickedness and redeem us from the grip of the terrible.

Jeremiah 16:5
Father, is this nation too far gone? Have You taken away Your lovingkindness and mercy from this land? Is there no hope?

Jeremiah 16:11
We have walked afer other gods and served them, and worshipped them. We have followed after the dictates of our own hearts.

We have done worse —each generation in forsaking the laws which You gave us —that we might prosper. Indeed, we have made our prosperity to be our own, forsaking You. Have mercy.

Jeremiah 16:12
We follow the dictates of our own heart _ filled with evil and we choose not to listen to You. Have mercy.

How can You look at us? We have denied Your prosperity. We do not deserve Your goodness. We are at Your mercy and we are so blinded by our pride that we do not even know it.

Jeremiah 16:17
You O Lord God see all our iniquity, You see our very evil thoughts. Nothing is hidden from You.

If you repay double fro our sin, will any of us stand?

We have defiled the land and we have filled every corner with our idols. Our consumption is so thick that idols lay in heaps around us. Indeed we have so many idols that we send our consumption to the trash heap. And we do not repent.

Truly, our eyes and our hearts are set to defy You.

Rebellion is rampant and even our leaders, past and present, join in the frolic and celebrate folly.

We rebel against Your chosen. We will not listen. Rebellion has set deeply within us as we seek to feed our endless lusts. Truly our gaze is fixed on evil.

We have chosen that which is detestable, and indulge in every abomination. O Father, we are intentional in choosing those idols which destroy Your inheritance. We strive to protect our desires to hurt You, mock You, and tempt Your hand.

Truly, we are a detestable people. Have mercy.

Oh Lord, my strength and fortress. My refuge in the day of affliction. Surely our fathers have inherited lies. Worthless and unprofitable things. We have turned from You and made gods for ourselves —gods that are false gods.

Cause us to know Your hand and Your might. Cause to Know that Your Name is the LORD.

May we repent with a contrite heart and humble ourselves before You, that we may again be pleasing in Your sight.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

Jeremiah prayers —for the USA ...No. 3

***Do we glory in our wisdom? Our power? Our riches? Our knowledge? Nay...let us glory in knowing God!
Jeremiah 9:23-26
23 Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.

25 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised;

26 Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

You are the One true and living God who knows us, sees, us, attends to us, and cares fro us. Your care has been superlative and You have prospered the United States. Our freedoms have come from You. Thank You.

Father, we have become wise in our own minds. We have used the wisdom You gave us and we have gloried in it. Now we have moved so far away from You as a nation, that we have become unrecognizable. We have used our riches to feed our every desire. We have become addicted to our need to consume. Have mercy.

Our desires have become addictions and we have nurtured habits of consumption. We have become so comfortable with our habits, that we have shut You out—that we might call our new society "good." We have left Your definitions and redefined our culture to fulfill our selfish desires.

We have redefined marriage and now we are redefining gender. We have made it to be whatever we want it to be. And we demand that the nation —as a whole —saffirm and assimilate into this man-made model that blatantly defies Your Word and the parameters of safety that You have ordained. Have mercy on us.

Father, we believe that the earth is ours. Forgive our folly. We have taken ownership and have even fancied that we understand the universe. We have gloried in our knowledge and abilities and used our creations to proclaim ourselves wise. Have mercy.

What is left for us to take from You? ...as if we could.

Please put a stop to our folly. Let us glory in returning to You. Change our desires, transform our thinking to seek You and to humble ourselves before You.

Your church has been silent. We have stood by and watched as the enemy has plundered our nation and stolen it, ravaged the poor, and destroyed the essential faith that has brought us the prosperity we have abused. Forgive us.

May we repent with a contrite heart and humble ourselves before You, that we may again be pleasing in Your sight.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

Jeremiah prayers —for the USA ...No. 2

***Were we ashamed? Will we walk? Will we hearken?
Jeremiah 6:15-19
15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.

16 Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.

18 Therefore hear, ye nations, and know, O congregation, what is among them.

19 Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

You are the One True and Living God. Your righteousness and purity is beyond our comprehension. You call us to be like You and You have provided the way, through the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ, that we can come before You.

You have provided for us that our future be secured from separation from You. Father, You always provide...if we are willing. You always provide...when we do our part. You have been clear about the conditions of Your blessings and You have not been unreasonable. On the contrary, You invite, You implore, You plead with us to follow Your ways, that we may be safe and secured.

You have clearly spelled out the abominations that You detest. And clearly, we have not listened. We have continued in our ways and fed our desires. Truly, as a nation, we have killed the unborn and we have paid for those overseas to do the same. Forgive us.

Our current administration is taking steps to withdraw from this practice. Our current administration promises a SCOTUS that will uphold and value life. Have mercy O Lord.

May millions rise up and support this direction. You saw the March for Life! People overtly supporting this movement and standing against those who believe that abortion is a part of "womens' health."

Touch the hearts of many to rise up in support of Your directives. May we no longer strike and murder the unborn. Move in the hearts of newly pregnant mothers, those that support them, and raise up the army of women who have had abortions to join together to stop the carnage. Have mercy, O God, have mercy.

Strengthen us that this practice be eradicated from our thinking.

Open our hearts that we may be ashamed. Ashamed of what we have done, what we have supported, and ashamed that we have allowed this practice to continue while enjoying the bounty of Your blessings.

Marriage has been redefined. Father, we think we are so smart that we don't need You and we don't need Your direction. We have become proud. We don't want the "old paths" ...we want the new. We want what we want and we proclaim it to be good. Forgive us.

You have pleaded with us to seek Your ways and find rest for our souls. But we would not listen. Forgive us.

Many of us, who seek You, have turned away and said nothing. We enjoy our stuff. We have amused ourselves as our nation has gone the way of Your warning, while we turned away and refused to act, to engage, to love those who have turned away.

Father, Your church has disengaged from our nation for so long, that many young adults do not even remember any teaching about You. Forgive us and help us return to our first love—and proclaim it.

We have not watched. We have not hearkened to the sound of the trumpet. You set watchmen over us, and they spoke in vain for we would not listen.

The enemy has gained strength. The enemy has used our own to fight against us.

The opposition is now organized, funded, and powerful. And they are our children and our grandchildren—who have been captured by the enemy and are now used for his purpose. They are human shields against the enemy of Jesus Christ.

We are dismayed. May we repent. May we stand before Your throne and repent of our shame and petition You on behalf of these who have been taken captive.

Fill us with Your words that would turn their hearts back to You. May we again become actively engaged in this battle, standing before Your throne, worshiping in spirit and in truth, and speaking in love as Your Spirit gives us utterance.

May we once again hearken to Your Word. May we no longer reject You and may we embrace Your path with contrite hearts.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

Jeremiah prayers —for the USA ...No. 1

***Can I contend with horses? ...a call to repentance ..No. 1
Jeremiah 12:5
5 If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

MONDAY:
Do the footmen weary me?
Can I contend with horses? If I am wearied in the land of peace, how shall I fare in battle?

There are a multitude of thoughts that pelt me. Teach me, O Lord. Have mercy on me and upgird my mind.

I claim 2 Timothy 1:7. I claim the power and love from You and I reject fear that comes against me. Teach me to serve You and stir up the gifts from Your Spirit. Teach me and remove the fear and reactions in me that thwart the testimony for Christ. Teach me fervent obedience to You.

Pluck out the evil that prevails in this land. Would it not be Your mercy? Open our eyes, our ears — may we hear the call to battle and respond.

Are there 10 righteous? Have mercy O God.

Eyes that do not see —or do they not look? Ears that do not or will not hear the call to arms. Father, I am no better. Forgive me. Upgird me to repent.

Awaken us — may Christ be served.

TUESDAY:
(My mind is in high drive. Thoughts without consequence. Help Lord. You ask me to do things that make no sense. I understand that they don't have to. But I wonder if I'm hearing Your voice. Am I doing Your work at the right time, in the right manner, and with the right heart? Being with a lot of people is hard. I struggle to manage the mental traffic that follows. Please help me.)

This nation has been a spiritual deaf-mute. We have not listened when we have heard. We have not acted. Forgive us. Teach us to pray for this nation.

(Please transform my thinking to manage all the stuff of my day and to handle the time-outs to be a fruitful joy with You. ...may I be found faithful.)

WEDNESDAY:
God of heaven, LORD of all the earth. You, who formed me —who formed the world where I live —You who created beauty that cannot be seen —justice that can not be embraced, —righteousness that cannot be touched, justice that cannot be embraced, —purity so great, that I cannot even contemplate it in my mind. ... You, who can be everything and yet You evaporate into nothing.

Have mercy on us —You have made us, created us, to be both finite in our bodies and infinite in our soul, You have embedded this understanding in us, yet we primarily look for significance in the physical. Forgive us. Lead us.

THUSDAY:
How do we give You the glory every day? (May I not cause You to weep —ever.) You see all that we do you see all that we think and You know our sin. You are not glorified in our nation anymore. Further, many work hard each day to remove everything that represent Your part of the success this nation has enjoyed.

They hate You. And Your church seems impotent to stand. We have grown fat and lethargic. Forgive us. We have not prayed; we have not sought You. We have not protected our freedoms to worship and to speak freely about the Gospel of Christ. Forgive us.

You are the everlasting God; You are the only hope for this nation.

Have mercy, O God and move our hearts to repent. May we all feel the shame of our deeds. Have mercy on us, O Lord.

Later:
We are bereft —your church —bereft of water: Your Holy Spirit —our eyesight is dimmed. Gone. Are we ashamed? Awaken us. Have mercy.

Our iniquity testifies against us. Our sin pronounces our wickedness and we have become comfortable with it.

You are our Hope —do it for Your Names' sake. Our backsliding establishes our guilt. You are our Savior in time of trouble. By our own hands, our own words, we are in trouble. Have mercy O LORD. O Hope of Israel — be our hope. God of Creation —recreate our hearts. Holy Spirit —convict us that we may repent. Crush us with knowledge of our sin.

Surely You have been made a stranger in this land. This should not be. We have evicted You from among us and we welcome all that hates You. Yet You, O Lord are in our midst And we are called by Your Name... Do not leave us.

FRIDAY (Inauguration Day)
Perfect God over all the earth. Teach me Your way for this day, this season, this life.

If you are in my midst, I take my safety in You. You are omnipresent...You are here.

Father, this nation loves to wander, and we go where ever our feet desire. We have put no restraints on our desires, nor any boundaries.

Is not Your Word clear? It is clear O LORD. Is Your care for us defined? And have You clearly articulated the places we should not go?

Your word is clear. Your care is defined and You have clearly articulated he boundaries of our safety. But we have ignored Your warnings. We have gone our own way.

Our gluttony of everything has become our god. We have gorged ourselves with out self-importance, with satisfying our appetites for food, stuff, sex, entertainment. We have fed our eyes, our ears, our bodies with every sensation imaginable. We have shunned Your Word. We have worked with diligence to remove every evidence of You from our sight, our day, our existence.

When we could not run from You, When we could not hide from Your existence, we waged war against You and openly performed every abomination to spite You.

SAVE US —LORD GOD ALMIGHTY!

Your church protects our comfort —as if we have a right to comfort because we associate ourselves with Your Son, Jesus Christ. We have become myopic in our daily lives —giving only as far as our comfort. Our comfort has been our god. We protect our comforts.

As we have seen the pain around the world, as media has allowed us to peer into the lives of other nations, and our own, Father, we have been eye-witnesses to:
  • Severe hardship
  • The sword, pestilence and famine.... And we have given paltry donations. We have given only what would not disturb our comfort.
  • We give a little bit, and wash our hands. We turn away, uttering our paltry prayer under our breath..."Lord, be with them."
Forgive us O God, for our sin is great. We have run from You. We fight You and our desires. We run from one desire to another, plundering as we go.

Our sin is so great. Please settle us. Take us into the quiet, where we cannot escape from You. Ope our eyes to see how far we have gone from Your loving kindness. Exhaust us from our comfort binging. We have gorged ourselves to the point that we cannot think. We have become so addicted that we can only look for the next thing to satisfy our addiction-for-the-next-thing.

Exhaust us O God. In Your mercy - exhaust us. See us —in our stupor —please do not turn from us. Open our eyes that we might see our deplorable condition and cower in embarrassment before You.

Waken Your church from our stupor. Waken pastors —upset us —may our pain be great. May it be unmanageable... that we may turn from our pride, our arrogance, our comfort —and come humbly before You.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

Prayer for those persecuted for their faith in Christ

As Christians, we can expect to be persecuted for our faith in Christ. We should not be surprised.

2 Timothy 3:12 (KJV)
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Today, many will die for their faith in Christ. Around the world, believers are daily giving their lives for their Savior Christ.

Please pray with me.

Father in heaven,

(From Psalm 18)
Lord, many are persecuted for their faith in Christ. Today, many will lose their lives. Children will watch as their parents are murdered. Parents will watch as their children are taken from them, or are killed on the spot.

Terror is the weapon of choice. Lord, help us pray diligently!

May the Body of Christ love Thee with all our strength. As terror closes in, may each heart be established with Christ as the Rock, the Fortress, as the Deliverer. May each persecuted person be strengthened, and find peace in putting their trust in You.

You are their Buckler, the Horn of their Salvation. Lord, You are their High Tower. Lift up each heart in the joy that You promise. Holy Spirit, fill them with promises from the riches in Your Word:
1 Peter 4:12-14 (KJV)
12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.
May they truly rejoice in their heart as they offer their testimony of the saving grace of Jesus Christ. May their faithfulness be a sweet aroma before You. Holy Spirit, grant them presence of mind, and Christ-likeness to forgive their persecutors. May Your presence be their mainstay.

For their steadfastness:
Father, the sorrows of death compass about these people. Protect their hearts from fear. Ungodly men flood their minds and torture their bodies—hell envelopes them from every side. Focus their minds to call upon You and cry out knowing that You will hear their voice.

Fight their battles Father. All of heaven and earth beckon to Your voice. Did not the earth itself become formed at Your Word? Draw these treasured believers out of the waters. Deliver them from the enemy, from the day of their calamity. Be their stay.

Father, delight in these, Your servants who are steadfast for the cause of Christ. Shine brightly through them in this darkness of their life. Your way is perfect. You are a buckler to those who trust in You. You are their Rock. Save them Lord. Gird them with strength.

Teach them to war not against the powers of flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. (Eph. 6;12).

Give them the shield of thy salvation and uphold them by Thy right hand. Enlarge their steps that their feet not slip. Gird them with strength unto the battle and subdue those whom the enemy uses.

For their persecutors:
May the joy of those who are persecuted be so evident that their persecutors take pause. May Christ speak boldly and directly into the hearts and minds of those who kill, steal, and destroy as they serve the purposes of the enemy. And may they search and find Christ because of the testimony of those who die daily for Christ’s sake.

For those of us who know:
Father, we know these things are happening and yet we get so busy that we do not even stop and pray. Show us how to do our part and diligently pray for these, our honored brothers and sisters in Christ.

Help Lord…that we may be found faithful in the day of Your coming! You are the only Hope. Encourage us. Help us to prioritize our lives and align with Your will.

Prayer for Christian Churches in the U.S.

We know that Jesus is coming. The Bible tells us:
You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. (Luke 12:40 ESV)
Are we ready? Are churches ready? Are we as individuals ready? Each day, we are closer. Have we done our part?

Please pray with me:
----------------------

Father in heaven, You are the Great Designer, and You have created and ordained the earth. By contrast, we bring sin with us everywhere we go and we taint the beauty of Your Handiwork. Truly, we have spoiled Your stunning Creation. Our sin has such great cost.

And how did You respond? You sent Your Son. You came to us. You paid the price—which was so great. How can we understand such love? We don’t know how. We are humbled. We are grateful.

Praise and acclamation belong to You alone for Your patience and Your compassion. You have made us a new creature to those who believe in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17).

It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. (Lam 3:22-23).
Bring this to our understanding that our commitment to Your will and Your work in us can be complete. Let us not forget Hebrews 12:2:
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
May Your Word bring us great consolation, peace, gratitude and joy. May Your Word incite commitment and resolve to do Your will moment by moment.

We choose to be bound by our sin. Forgive us. Yet, this need not be! Hope is complete through Jesus Christ, who came to
“… preach good tidings unto the meek …bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

“… to comfort all that mourn; …to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:1, and Luke 4:18)
Where we have fallen short, where we have not been a message of hope to our communities, guide our churches to repent before You. We ask You to forgive us and open our eyes to see opportunity.

Surely we are Your body – Your outreach into the world to proclaim the Living Christ! But we fall short. We have not accepted the beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness. Therefore, we are not a “tree of righteousness” that glorifies You!

Help Lord! You can turn all this around! Have mercy on us! Oh Holy Spirit convict the hearts of whole churches to repent, to receive Your joy, Your beauty, and to exalt You with praise. May we eagerly cast off the spirit of heaviness! Establish churches as “trees of righteousness” —both individually and through their outreach. Let us cry out to You and may You clothe us in commitment!

Through the power of Your Holy Spirit, establish the root systems—roots that go deep and solid and are founded in Your Word. Water each church—the Holy Spirit leading and guiding the leadership and members. Cause each tree to grow into a balanced, stalwart foundation within each community.

May Your Holy Spirit have free reign that the fruit grow soundly and without blight. As fruit, may we be mature, firm; inviting and tasteful. May the Word of hope in Jesus Christ follow every member through every interaction of their week. And may Jesus Christ be glorified! Hallelujah!

May each church member gather in anticipation of glorious worship each Sunday, amazed at Your work to grow them both individually and collectively. May we be so excited to share what You have accomplished, that we can’t wait to encourage others and worship You in one accord.

May our worship rise up and may it be a savory perfume to You. May You be pleased with us daily—both individually and collectively. And may we find Your joy and peace as we enthusiastically demonstrate the Gospel of Jesus Christ as a habit of living in our lives.

In the Name of Jesus Christ. Hallelujah!

Prayer for those held captive by pornography:

According to the Institute for the Study of Labor, a private, global, independent economic research institute, in their article on the impact of pornography on marriage, they indicate that in 2010, 13% of all Internet traffic is for “erotic content.” Essentially, pornography is replacing marriage. To hear an 11-minute podcast on this topic, from World News Group, please click here.

Please pray with me:

Adoration:
“Father, You know us (Rom 8:27). You know our hearts and minds, and You are a God of compassion (Psalm 145:8). You are gracious. You care diligently about our well being (I Peter 5:7).

You are holy and worthy of our praise and worship. Your love for us is without bounds, and You consistently beckon us to seek You, to seek Your help, and to receive Your grace and mercy.

You are the ultimate care and love for us. Your compassion is at the ready to embrace us and lift us from the muck and mire of our daily existence and bring us to a place of peace, security, and sufficiency.

Confession:
“We have not prayed as we should to save the institute of marriage, as You define it. We have not been diligent to find ways to preserve and mentor new marriages to increase their success rates—especially when they faced challenges. Forgive us.

“We have allowed marriage to become a temporary arrangement for a tax credit, rather than the covenant that You designed. We have forgotten that You are the Author of marriage and we have re-purposed and modified Your gift to accommodate our sin. Forgive us.

“We have allowed the media to pour out erotic messages and flood the public places with alluring sexual content. We have not been diligent in prayer against these messages or in prayer for those behind it, or the victims in front of it. Forgive us.

“We seek to satisfy our bodies without respecting them, or acknowledging them as a gift from you. We have not been good stewards. Forgive us.

“We have forgotten Your directive to populate the earth and we devised and elevated our own thinking to gratify ourselves without commitment or responsibility. Forgive us.

“We have followed this path of destruction for so long, that nations are now on the path to extinction. We know about this and we haven’t taken heed or corrective action. Forgive us and have mercy on us.

Thanksgiving:
Thank You that You care about each of us, and every part of our being (Luke 12:7). Thank You for Your commandments and instructions that You have given us— that we might be kept safe; that we can be protected against the harm of our enemy (John 10:10).

Thank You that You are a God of hope. Romans 15:13. Thank You that You have not left us without help, and You encourage and even command us to ask for Your assistance in all things. (Matthew 7:7)

Thank You that nothing is beyond Your ability. We come to You with thanksgiving that You are for us (Romans 8:31). We are grateful that nothing can separate us from Your love (Romans 8:38). We are grateful for the ultimate strength of Your love for us.

We thank You that You came to set the captives free (Isaiah 61:1).

Supplication:
O Father, many are held captive by pornography—at so many levels. Some are held captive to seek it, find it, and indulge in it. Some are captive to produce and distribute it. Some are caught and held against their will, forced to participate for the financial gain, and heinous indulgence of others. We appeal to You to help them.

You have commanded us in Psalm 119:37 to turn away our eyes from this sin. And you have shown us in Psalm 101:3 that we are not to set any wicked thing before our eyes. So we know that this is dangerous, that it is sin, and that it is possible to avoid it. We need Your help to be diligent and pleasing before You.

Send witnesses that will speak meaningfully to these individuals. Sharpen the mind and bring the words of life to these who are caught in this trap. Strengthen their minds to hear and protect the hearts of those who would listen.

Surely, O God, send Your Holy Spirit. May He comfort those who are ripped apart by addiction. May Your hope infiltrate their very being and not let go. May it give them resolve to flee from temptation through the strength that Christ bought on the cross to secure their freedom.

May those involved with this industry come to the realization that Your care is personal and it is for them. May they come to the humbling knowledge that Christ’s care includes dying for them—because of Your great love for them. May they realize that as their Creator, You made them with specific purpose and value…and may they cling to You to help.

Raise up an army of people who have been caught in the pornography trap. Save them! You are a merciful God! Save them from this destruction! Set them on a path to turn on their captors and lead the way to freedom. You, O God, can bring repentance to those who would hear. Yes, repentance and salvation and freedom for the captives.

So who are those who would hear and follow the path to freedom? You know. Raise up an army of prayer warriors to seek You diligently on behalf of those who suffer. May we be unrelenting before You day and night and not rest while this path of death torments its victims.

Encourage those who pray against pornography. Drive us to seek You and praise You for the release, the victory for each captive that is set free. Grant us vision on the support system needed that those who are free may remain so. Bring to life the ministers of Your Word to find and receive those who can hear.

Grant us prayers. Grant us undying hope. Establish in Your Word that we may be found faithful at the Day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

Prayer for the lonely and homeless

At this time of year, when many in the U.S. gather with friends and family and take time to give thanks for their blessings. As those of us in the U.S. compare our standard of living with those around the world, we cannot but realize that we are blessed. And yet, when we take a careful inventory, we see many, even in our neighborhood who are hurting, hungry, and longing for community.

Please pray with me:

Lord God in Heaven,

You are the God who created the earth, the everlasting Father. You are comprehensive and complete. You are not bound by time; you have always been and You live equally in the past, present, and future.

You lack nothing; You have no needs. You revealed Yourself as Jehovah-Jireh, Yahweh-Yireh, the God who provides when Abraham needed a sacrifice, a substitute for his son, Isaac. And so many years later, You provided Your very own Son, Jesus Christ, as our substitute. We are humbled by our provision. We cannot grasp the cost of our sin. We cannot grasp the depth of Your love for us. We cannot fathom that Jesus, Your love for us brought You to die willingly and it was Your joy to take our sin upon Yourself. We love You and we come humbly before Your throne of grace.

We acknowledge that all good things come from You. We recognize that all our abilities have also come from You and You have even given us life itself. You give us freewill and the choice to use the very essence of who You made us to be for Your service. You call us to do so.

Forgive us when we have ignored those in need and passed them by without even uttering a prayer under our breath. Forgive us when we see and hear the news, when the needs of so many are directly in front of us, and we have not done what we could to help.

Truly You have given this nation so much, and we have not been diligent. We have not been scrupulous with the bounty that You have poured into our lives, individually and as a nation. Forgive us for not seeking You more diligently and using each circumstance of need as an opportunity to proclaim Christ by our love and or actions. Show us how to repent. Show us how to stop and take time to listen to Your Spirit.

Jesus, You came to set the captives free (Is. 61:1). We who have so much are held captive by the consumerism around us. We are held captive by the busy-ness that invades our calendars. We isolate ourselves in the midst of plenty, and ignore those in need.

Father, the lonely, the homeless…they are everywhere. Their pain is overwhelming, paralyzing. We don’t know what to say. We don’t know how to comfort them. We look past them to cover our own ineptness. We haven’t asked You what to do or invited the leading of the Holy Spirit into our lives on these issues. Lead us to change.

We often don’t know how to help so we come today asking, “How can we help? What can we do? What can we say? How can we comfort?” Show us how to commit ourselves to Your purposes in these areas.

Father we pray for the millions of lonely people, especially over the holidays, when aloneness is accentuated. Many people have no family. Many have family but are not welcome amongst them. You have given us a heavenly home, where we will always belong and where we are always welcome. Teach and lead us to invite the lonely to join us as citizens of the Kingdom of Christ.

Teach us to recognize loneliness and avail ourselves to comfort those in need. Oh Father, some of them live in our very homes, feeling lonely and excluded, alienated and unloved. Open our eyes to see these opportunities and pour out Your compassion through us that we might extend Your love to them.

During this season of holidays, family and friend events, the gatherings—may we bring warmth to those who are there and suffer from loneliness. There in our very presence, open our eyes and stir our hearts to bring relief and warmth to those in need.

Father, the homeless are everywhere. They are in our towns, our nations, and the world at large. Many are cold, shivering in the night. Many do not have the skills needed to survive. Bring unexpected blessings to the homeless. Stir those in the vicinity to help.

Strip away the cloud on our eyes that cause blindness in us so that we may be an unleashed army on behalf of these people. Help us to submit to the leading of Your Holy Spirit to bring Your blessing to those in need.

Build up an army of warriors against the challenges that prevent help from being loosed. Those that have financial resources, may they liberally give of their resources. Show them the organizations that diligently use the funding for its intended purpose. May gifting abound to them and may they be excellent stewards. Sustain the energy of these stewards to complete every detail in their charge.

Motivate those individuals who have time to give. Direct their steps to the place that can receive their gift of time. Bring a spirit of collegiality between the givers and receivers and may their time together be joyful. May the receivers be joyful, and the givers be humbled. May the blessing from You—given to those in need— be Your delight.

Father, there is such need of the homeless. The list seems endless and overwhelming: shelter, finances, a job, clothing, food…the entire foundation to be self-sustaining has been wiped out. Yet there are organizations that know how to make sense of the situation and lead people through to a place of dignity and self-sustenance.

We pray for these organizations and ask for the needed funding and know-how. May there be volunteers with the needed skills to help restore these individuals. May their dignity be restored. May You send an unceasing reservoir of hope. Invigorate these people with a drive to secure a life of independence. May they help others and may the successes build into an avalanche of success. Father, You have entrusted us to be Your hands, Your feet, Your voice, and Your presence. Show us how to be diligent stewards that in the Day of Your Coming, we are found faithful.

In Jesus’ Name.

Prayer for the U.S. Elections

There never seems to be enough time to be diligent in our choices when it’s time to vote. How can we carefully evaluate our options, the character of the people who are running for office and what they believe? The media overwhelms us with social, psychological, visual, and aural hype and litter. The election is coming up quickly. May we be diligent in our prayers.

Please pray with me:

Thank you that we still live in a nation where we can vote and express our voice by voting. We acknowledge Your Word that  Heaven and earth shall pass away, but Your words shall not pass away. (Matthew 24:35).

You tell us in Romans 13:1:
Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Yet, O merciful Father, when we see what is going on in the world, in places like North Korea, China, Russia and the Middle East, we cannot understand the heinous actions. We look at the incredible blessing that You have poured out here and we are humbled. Yet, we have taken our freedom and blessing for granted. Forgive us.

We are grateful when we read Romans 8:28:
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
Yet we know that this comes with a price. We acknowledge that our nation has deteriorated to greater and greater depths of sin.

In Your Word, 1 Timothy 2:1-2 You exhort us:
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
Father, You have placed us here at this time. There are no details that You have not attended to, nothing that has escaped Your attention. We rest in the fact that You are the True and Living God. Truly, there is none like You. We come before You, a holy God, knowing that Your love is sure and we know that You are for us. We thank you.

Father in heaven we seem to be at a cross-roads in this nation. We are here because we have been at crossroads many times before and perhaps we were asleep. I know I was asleep. I have not been diligent. Please forgive me.

I acknowledge that I have not attended to those things I know are not from You; abortion, drugs, homelessness, indiscretion with regard to sexual practices and laws that protect these and other activities...and l have not prayed for our leaders. I have criticized them and not sought Your help in praying diligently for them. Forgive me and pour out prayers through me for them from this day forward. Give me a heart to pray for our leaders and this nation and prayers of substance that I may be found diligent and without embarrassment in the Day of Your coming.

For those who are believers who have courageously entered the political arena:
Holy Spirit, grant these people courage. In each day may the testimony of Christ be spoken without hesitancy. May their lives be an example to those with whom they meet, talk, and influence. Give them the words to speak, the emotional intelligence to handle their demeanor in a reasonable manner and tone so that others can hear. May Your Truth rise up above the din.

You gave the Apostle Paul discourse and argument that was so solid that many could understand. Grant your political servants the words, the logic, and the character so that others will see them as true leaders and follow them. Open the eyes of those who see and hear these testimonies and may they see the direction as viable, credible, and possible.

For those who are running for office:
Father, Your Word: Daniel 2:21
21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
Hold them strong who are Your chosen politicians. Grant them wisdom and may the hedge of protection be wide and deep. As the slandering commentary and verbal trash of untruth is unleashed through the media, separate Your chosen leaders in the minds of voters. Give voters discernment and direction to make sense of the deluge of information. May Truth rise to the top. We believe Your Word is Truth. We believe that Jesus Christ is Truth.

Grant these men and women who are Your children, a stalwart single-minded focus. May their honor and integrity be unquestionable in the minds and inner being of those who hear them.

For the families of candidates:
Father, we pray for the families of Your chosen politicians, that their health be secured. That they be shielded from the dirt and filth of the world that would speak lies and deliberately and intentionally issue hurtful words against these candidates and their families. Protect them and pour out Your Word upon them. Hold them strong and grant them a resolve to stand for what is right—as You define it. Protect them physically from disease and accident. Protect them emotionally, psychologically and spiritually and may they cling to Your Word for strength, comfort, and inner peace.

For voters:
Father, please cause the messages of Your choosing to find their way to voters. Give them an ability to hear through the riffraff to understand the true message. We ask for a hunger for substantive matters. Help us to differentiate messages that are unimportant and receive the needed information to make decisions that will stand before Christ.

We so need the leading of Your Holy Spirit! Grant us patience, and diligence in seeking Your direction and leading. Grant us ears to hear. We want to hear the Word from our Shepherd and follow it. Grant us our desire to be true followers of Christ in every way, and especially in our choices as we face these elections.

Father there are decisions that need to be made where it seems there is no win. How do we manage the choices where there is no worthy candidate? How do we make a decision? Help us to clearly hear Your leading. May we leave the election booth with peace that we have voted according to Your will.

There are many believers who can vote and do not. Father, awaken them. Cause them to be dissatisfied with this choice. May they be ashamed that they are not exercising a freedom that has been so hard won. May we be humbled by the opportunity to cast a ballot as we see those in Hong Kong who are fighting for this right. May we see this as a privilege as we observe how many people in the world do not share in this freedom. And may we not take it lightly. Humble us.

Raise us up as a voice to be reckoned with. May Your Church in the U.S. rise up from sleep. May we gather together to pray for our leaders. Establish us as a viable voice that must be recognized. We acknowledge Matthew 18:20:
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Give us opportunity to claim this promise, especially where the elections and our leaders are concerned.

Behind these candidates and this election is the very culture and security of this nation and its future. Show us how to take a stand and be established as the “Nation Under God” that You birthed. May we become people of action, beginning with this election. May we rise up en masse to stand strong for the values and direction that our founding fathers established as the root of our being. May our manner is exercising speech and action please You and be usable by Your Spirit so that others may realize that You are Truth and Justice.

For a new day in the U.S.:
Grant us a righteous anger in our prayers and may we verse them to You continually. Help us to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves in the expression of this anger—that the testimony of Christ not be tarnished. May the Love of Christ be evident in our lives and provide the True Light that others may see and follow.

Help us to become spiritual leaders. May we diligently study Your Word that the “new creature” in us be a beacon for those who are seeking You. Show us how to be “salt that has not lost its flavor” to a world that watches.

May we no long be content to stand on the sidelines as mere observers as the culture of the U.S. disintegrates before us. Pour out prayers through us. Fill us with the hope and enliven out spirit with Your Holy Spirit. May others know we are Christians by our love.

In Jesus’ Name and for His sake.

Prayer for the Ebola epidemic

We learn that time is of the essence with regard to the Ebola epidemic and that thousands are dying as it spreads. Learn more.

Please pray with me:

Lord God of Heaven,

You are the Creator and all the earth submits to Your will. Only You can bring good from all situations. I claim Romans 8:28.
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
You have allowed this virus and it has taken the lives of so many and is devastating the lives of so many more. It is not something I can understand. I do see that here in the U.S. we are more concerned about our own safety rather than seeking how we can help. Forgive us. We are driven by fear— when You have offered Your perfect love to cast it out. Forgive us.

Truly, there is nothing happening that does not submit to Your purpose, so the virus is under Your rule.

Father, for those who minister to the victims and serve in the cleanup
:  May those who work tirelessly, be strengthened for each day. Protect their bodies from the virus and may the bleach wash kill every cell of ebola that threatens them. Give them discernment as they approach people that their bodies may be protected. Father, the suits that they wear—may there be enough of them; may they have the needed supplies to keep themselves safe.

Shield them from the emotional devastation as they see young children die, and other children lose their entire family. Cover these servants secure their bodies as well as their minds. Father, I can not imagine the emotional cost, the turmoil, the heartbreak that these workers face every day. Permeate their thinking to protect their heart.

For the leaders and officials: surely, they need wisdom as well as words. Bring the right information to them that they can make good decisions. Grant them a spirit of collaboration and unity of mind and purpose as they make these decisions. I include the doctors, their staff, the civil and national leadership— grant them focus, direction, and a plan that bring hope to those they serve. Change them Father that their lives be committed to true service. Grant them a heart of compassion. Strengthen them emotionally, especially where difficult decisions must be made.

For the families of victims, and those that have contracted the disease: Father, denial runs rampage and fear drives people to poor decisions. Raise up the voices of those who have recovered to be an encouragement for those who who are sick. May those who are ill and their family and friends, not be in denial but act swiftly that this disease be contained and they may live. May the ramifications of their decision to hide their symptoms be unacceptable and may they do the right thing.

So many people have lost their friends and their family. Yet You are there crying with them. Cause us to repent. Cause us to value this situation as an opportunity to seek You and draw close to You. I know You are ready to draw close to them—Oh Father, may their voices reach out in their desperation and their loss. May survivors and family reach out to those that grieve.

For the dying: Father, those that have contracted the disease and wonder if they will live. May Your Word of Life be spoken to them. May they realize their peril and seek You for their salvation. As they plead for their lives, may the salvation of Jesus be spoken to them. May they receive Your Gift of salvation and may the Name of Jesus rise victorious for them as well as their families and friends. May this entire situation be a revival for the glory that You for those who would call on Your Name. Jesus! Jesus Christ— may the Message and the Truth go out.

For new believers: May many turn to You. May they live to speak the Truth about Jesus and salvation. May there be an incredible revival and may the joy of Your Salvation fill the land with hope. Father, cause many people to speak Your Word and may the new believers grow quickly and minister to You and those who are dire for the Good News.

For those in the U.S.: Father, we have become a nation that is selfish and self-serving. Forgive us for being more concerned about our own safety than helping those in need. You have given us so much—like the ability to contain this virus, yet we are reticent to help those are fighting it afar. Raise up Your church to pray for our nation and free us from the love we seem to have for our stuff.

Cause our gaze to reach further to identify opportunity to share, to give, to use the prosperity that You have brought forth for Your purposes. Raise up prayer warriors and encouragers. Raise up an army that petitions You on how to walk by faith and not by sight. Squelch the fear that we choose instead of the love that would cast it out. Forgive us for our poor choices.

May we align with Your will. May preachers, and pastors be burdened to lead their congregations to take action. May the prayers from this nation and abroad capture Your attention and minister to You. Use this deadly virus to cause us to make change in our lives. May this catastrophe be part of the harvest for the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.

For the doctors, medical teams, researchers, and facilities: Father, please give these people ideas and insights on this virus. Guide their thinking on how to protect those who are well, and new considerations on the treatment of the sick. May those who are treating the victims be protected by Your grace. Grant a collaboration amongst the teams to come up with new and effective treatments. For the University of Nebraska Medical Centers and other facilities – raise up leaders to prepare for the near future and bring truth about the disease so that we know what is needed to protect this disease from spreading in the U.S. May there be no false statements that "all is well." Protect us with the truth and grant us emotional savvy to respond in ways that are helpful.

Grant us hope. Fill us with hope. Fill use with an encouraging word. Speak out Words of Life for all of us that would get involved that we may have an outpouring of joy in what You, the God of Creation will do. Open our eyes to see what You will will do and give us words of testimony that others may see too! Raise us up to care about the matters of Your heart and not our own.

Hear our prayers, in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer for the United States, our culture, the church, and a call to repent...

As we witness that the culture of the United States is deteriorating, please pray with me:

God of Creation,

You, who made the universe and all therein, You are worthy to be praised. You are holy, O God, and it is impossible for You to look on sin. We sin. Show us the path to repentance. In Your great love for us, You have placed the path to righteousness that we might have relationship with You. Thank You.

You have shown us Your mercy and Your grace through Your Son, Jesus Christ the Lord. Thank You. Your compassion for us is undeserved. You sought us out, and provided a pathway to relationship with You as a free gift. If we only believe. Your graciousness is beyond what we can think or understand.

The U.S. is under siege and we, Your church have enjoyed freedoms without protecting them. Forgive us. We have not diligently prayed for our leaders or our nation. We have not watched diligently. You have given us so much but we have squandered the incredible measure of your lavish provision—when many in the world have nothing. We have not sought You, individually or as a nation and we have been driven by greed and fear. We have looked to ourselves for our sustenance and forgotten that You are our Provider. Forgive us. Call us to repent. To my shame, I have done these things. Forgive me.

O God, awaken the Body of Christ here in the U.S. Cause us to weep at that tragedy that lies all around us. We have allowed our culture to deteriorate without taking a stand. We have not acknowledged that the bountifulness of this nation comes from You. Instead, we have taken credit and You have been pushed out of the picture.

Did we pray fervently when prayer was taken out of the schools? Did we turn our backs when abortion clinics were setup? Did we question potential leaders during each election season? I didn’t. Forgive me. Forgive us. Cause us to arise. Cause us to awaken and turn from our lethargy.

Pour out prayers through Your church. Open our eyes to hear Your heart on these matters. May we beseech You day and night on behalf of this nation and its leaders. May we turn from our ways.

Father, Your church seems silent and it seems this is of our own choosing. Change us. Bring us a sense of urgency. Bring us unrest that we may rise up. May we do so in Your love and compassion. May we reach out to our neighbors and community each day with the love of Christ. Give us discernment and squelch the criticism and judgement that we are so quick to embrace.

Bring Your church together. May the Spirit raise us up in “the joy and unity of the Lord” and may it cause those who see to wonder. May Your love be expressed appropriately, with discernment and not mar the testimony of Christ. May truth reign in our hearts and minds. May they know us by our love.

Surely the harvest is ripe. People are empty and without purpose. You are hard to find in our culture because we have pushed You out and we have hidden our faith! O Father, fashion us into an army for Christ that others can say, “That’s what I’ve been looking for. Tell me what it is, so that I may have what you have.” Raise us up, daily. Bring a resurgence of revival for our nation.

Grant us the gift of shame once again. Open our eyes and hearts to see our error. Help us to raise up the Salvation of Christ and commit ourselves to Him as Lord of our lives, our thoughts and our actions. Invigorate us for the cause of Christ and send us forth as a trained and effective army that invites the lost—a message of hope and a message they can willingly embrace.

Have mercy, O gracious God, for we ask it in Jesus’ Name.
