Weather Disasters: a prayer for fast action to help

***Hurricanes, earthquakes, flooding and fires: for fast action to help
1 Timothy 2:1-4
1. I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

Thanksgiving belongs to You. You have grown this great nation from its inception. Thank You. This nation has been a world leader because of Your hand upon us. Thank You. I have lived in this nation and enjoyed freedoms for my entire life, because of your gracious blessings upon us. Again, I give You thanks.

You are a gracious God; slow to anger, and You desire that all men be saved. You are worthy of praise. You summon the wind and the waves and they obey Your voice. You created the sun and moon as a sign. You know every tremor and every earthquake. You know every person who lives and those who have died in the weather events. You know all.

We cannot help but ask, "Where are You?" Yet the question answers itself, because You are omni-present. You are here. You are with the people who are suffering from the damage of these hurricanes. May they cry out to You and find Your grace to help in their time of need.

Father, call Your church here in the U.S. to cry out to You. Wake us up. Let us enter Your gates with thanksgiving. So many people say, "We lost everything by we are grateful that our lives were spared." Be pleased with this set of priority. Father, raise up the church to take action. Already we are back to our lives as usual and we have forgotten those who continue to struggle.

Puerto Rico struggles in desperation. May Your church reach out in prayer and petition You on their behalf. Please sustain these people and help them to hold steady while help is mobilized. Sustain their lives, still their hearts. Give those who are able the ability to form teams to help others. Bind these people, strangers before the storm, to come together to uplift, encourage and sustain each other.

I pray for our leaders, Father. The nation is in disarray and these leaders need Your insight to know how to prioritize their actions. Help to the victims of these hurricanes cannot come fast enough, especially in Puerto Rico. Surround our leaders with solid advice and planning. Bring voice to those plans that can bring the greatest benefit. Father, by Your Holy Spirit, bring new ideas, unique ideas to the people involved so that people quickly receive basic needs.

You clearly tell us that You choose the leaders of every nation to do Your will.
Romans 13:1
Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Instill in Your church the understanding that to complain about these our leaders is sin. Instill in us to refrain from words that speak against Your chosen authorities. Let us turn from the temptation and instead choose to please You with prayers for them.

Father, I'm asking for the mobilization of basic life-sustaining needs: food, water, medical attention. Mobilize Your church here in the U.S. to pray for Your supernatural intervention for these people. We need Your help. I petition You to awaken Your church to rise up in prayer before Your throne.

Father, the temptation to go back to our daily lives "as usual" is great. We have become a self-absorbed society. The storms have gone by and with have minimal impact, it is easy to turn our back and resume our lives. May it not be so! Father, this is an opportunity to unify our nation. Raise up a sentiment of humility and before You, a vision within each person to do what they can, and courage to act.

Silence the accusers! Silence the complainers! Father, the media as well as loud-mouthed complainers use these disasters to tear down our leaders and our nation. Let us repent. You have called us to make supplication, prayers and intercessions for all men and for those in authority. We indulge in complaining. Forgive us. Place Your Word in the hearts of Your church that we have the mandate to pray. You tell us: Do everything without complaining or arguing (Philippians 2:14). Raise up a heart to do this.

Father, the enemy infiltrates the media. The people in this industry are being used in every scenario to tear down and cause division. Where is truth? Jesus, You are Truth. This industry proliferates lies and deception. Cause those who will use these disasters to complain and put down our government to be silenced. Raise up those who will report the truth. Trample down the lies that destroy.

Extol Yourself in these times. Have mercy on our nation. We do not deserve it. Yet, You are a gracious God and I ask for Your help in time of dire need.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

Hurricanes Maria, Jose, Irma and Harvey: A prayer for strength and hope

***Hurricanes Maria, Jose, Irma and Harvey: A prayer for strength and hope
Isaiah 57:10
You were tired out by the length of your road,Yet you did not say, "It is hopeless." You found renewed strength, Therefore you did not faint. (NASB)
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

Father, You are God. The hurricanes have left incredible devastation. Yet, I come to You with thanksgiving. In the rubble, there have been miracles. Babies born in the midst of the hurricane itself. People rescued after days without food or water. Loved ones reunited and even pets found after days of wandering. Yes, I come with thanksgiving. You are who You say You are:
Isaiah 25:4-5 4
For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.
The storms have been devastating in so many different ways. They have left hundreds of thousands to be poor. Father, be their strength. So many are in distress and will continue to be in distress for many months and even years to come —grant them a strong spirit. You are a refuge from the storm, may Your Holy Spirit teach them to access Your place of refuge. Father have mercy. You are the shadow from the heat. You are there when the blast of these terrible storms have pushed people against the wall.

Father, the devastation is not just of property. Many, many lives have been devastated. Many souls are crying out, "Where are You?" Help Lord. Show Yourself.

It is so tempting to say, "God does not hear. God does not see. God does not care." Yet, there is no truth to that. I strike those sentiments down in the Name of Jesus. You are the God of Hope and I proclaim there is none like You.
Psalm 34:8
O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Father, I claim this verse for these people caught in the devastation of this storm. May they look to You and offer their trust as a sacrifice during this disturbing time.

We can trust in You. Establish this in our hearts. Help us to turn to YOU, O God. You calmed the seas and spoke to the wind. They obeyed Your command! May we all petition You to speak calm to our hearts and minds, and our lives as we survey the devastation.

YOU are the God of life and not of death. It is tempting to say otherwise. Establish our thoughts and prayers and lighten our hearts as the reality of the devastation becomes a part of the daily lives of these people. Call unto them, and may they cry out to You. Establish Your Spirit within them and perform the impossible: Grant them Peace of heart and mind, amidst the ruin.
Nahum 1:7
The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him.
So much has been destroyed: homes, buildings, the power grid. Dams are breaking and so are hearts. Everywhere people look, there is wreckage. What do they see when they look inside? Father, may they look to You and find You.

Please send Your Holy Spirit, the Comforter, to comfort those in these storms. Grant them strength of body and of heart. May they have hope...where there is hopelessness. Be their hope and strength in this time of dire need.

Father, may those who can go and help, do so. May those who can give, give generously, may those pray, petition You day and night. Hear our cry and have mercy.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

A nation in shambles, crying out to God...the prayers of one sinner

*** A nation in shambles, crying out to God...the prayers of one sinner
Isaiah 25:4
For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones [is] as a storm [against] the wall.
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

You are a God of order, and all things have their time and place. You are the God of Creation and all things are under Your control. You are the God who gives strength to the poor and needy. You know our distress. You are the God who provides refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat.

You are God Almighty and there is none like You.

Honor, glory, and praise belong to You and to none other. You alone are worthy to be worshiped. We are not worthy to approach You, except for Jesus.

We come to Your presence with thanksgiving. Thank You for getting our attention with Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. Thank You for uniting this nation with great need as we survey the devastation left in the wake of these storms. We give You thanks that we can trust You to bring good from the intense needs as we begin cleaning up.

We cry out to You this day. Jesus! Hear our cry. The devastation is so great, it is near impossible to know where to begin in the cleanup. Call us to begin with You. Father, some have nothing left. Their homes are completely in shambles...and they barely have their lives. There is nothing to clean up. There is nothing left. Nothing.

Puerto Rico is devastated. Parts of Florida are devastated. Houston and parts of Texas have been reduced to rubble. These are our fellow citizens. We must help them. From a distance, it is easy to turn away. May it never be so! Touch our hearts to help those in such extreme need. Pour out Your Spirit that we may turn to You and petition You for our need. Father unite this nation once again. Hear our cry. It seems that the ocean is trying to wash this nation clean.
Leviticus 18:25, 28
And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants. That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.
You are a God who loves those who fear You and hate sin. We are all sinners. You have every right to condemn us...but You came instead to save us. Yet we continue in our sin. Have mercy O God. Have mercy.

This nation is in disarray. The media carries the devastation of these disasters and many of us are careless in our thinking...and self serving. Surely, none have an excuse–none can say, "I didn't know." Yet, with all this need—here in our nation, many return to their self-serving and sinful agendas. How can You stand us? Forgive us.

Yet, You are our hope and there is no other name under which we can stand. Jesus! We have been arrogant in our ways, and within hours of these storms, we turn away and turn back to our daily lives, oblivious of dire need. Forgive us.

2 Chronicles 7:14
14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
You give us the condition that we must humble ourselves. If my people...IF we will humble ourselves. It seems we prefer our arrogance and our self-serving ways. I am no better. Forgive me. Forgive us. You have given us a gift with these hurricanes: the opportunity to show Your love and care for those in need. Yet many have turned away once the hurricanes were no longer a threat to them. We are so myopic. I am myopic! Help me Lord. Help our nation. Change me. Please change this nation.

Teach us to pray. Our minds are so self-centered that our own minuscule needs captivate us. They aren't even needs. They are wants. I am guilty. Forgive me. Lord God of heaven humble me, teach me to pray. I petition You to help me abide by Your Word. I cannot do this on my own. I need You. We need You.

How can we seek You? We are so filthy that the land itself is disgusted with us. I am so sorry. For I too have, in my own little world, brought my self-serving ways into my everyday life and made them my priorities.

How can we seek You? This nation has turned against You. Many people seek and find any reference to You and proclaim it an offense! I am so sorry. I have not prayed as I should. How can we seek You? Teach me. Father...Heavenly Father... teach me to seek You and wait on You. Quiet my mind and heart. Capture my attention that I may humbly pray and seek You.

You beckon us to "turn from our wicked ways." HOW? How can this nation that is so determined to spit in Your face, turn? How? YOU KNOW. Only You know how this can happen. It is through Your Spirit. You give us the answer. O Father, please do not hold back. Turn our hearts. Send Your Spirit to us. Only by the power of Your Holy Spirit can this happen. I ask it. Change me. Change this nation. Please have mercy.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

Hurricane Irma: Pleading for mercy and help in time of need

*** Hurricane Irma: Pleading for mercy and help in time of need
Isaiah 25:4
“For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.”

Psalms 88:11
“Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction?”
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

O Father of life, God of mercy. we are reeling from Hurricane Harvey and Irma is at our doorstep, threatening the nation. Have mercy, O God. Call us to seek You.

You are the God who gives strength to the poor and needy in our distress. You are the refuge from the storm. You are a refuge and Your are strength, when the blast of the storm pushes us against the wall. Thank You Lord, for Your mercy is from everlasting.

Many are crying out, "Where is God!" Yet, You are omnipresent. You are there. You are in every moment and You are in every place. Yes, You are there. Your presence is fierce and yet merciful. Help us Lord, we call unto You. Have mercy.

The destruction is total. Entire islands are devastated. The destruction is beyond comprehension. The Caicos and Turks islands, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Dominican Republic. Father, the devastation is so great, it is not possible to understand it. There are no services for these people. There is no water, no food, no sanitation, no cover. Have mercy and may Your presence be felt. May Your testimony rise up.

Homes are destroyed. Families are separated and searching. Children have been ripped from their mother's and father's arms. The devastation has annihilated the infrastructure. And it has brought horror to families as they assess their staggering loss. Children cry out in fear and trembling as their parents are no more. Alarm and panic are of no avail, for who is there that can help. Only You O LORD, please have mercy.

You are there. How can they know it? How can Your presence be felt? How can these people have the strength to move forward? How is it possible? Only You know.

Rise up, O God. Demonstrate Your sovereignty. Cause everyone there to seek You and proclaim Your sovereignty. Are there people there who know You? Are there believers there who will rise up with a testimony of Your salvation? Who are they? You know.

May Your Holy Spirit rise up. May rejoicing come from the mouths of those who know You. May there be great peace within them and may it flow from their being. Raise them up as a testimony to You: The One True and Living God. Raise up a song in their hearts and send them forth.

Comfort these people in their losses. It is so extensive. Yet, can thy lovingkindness be demonstrated from the grave? Save these people. Through this horrific storm, save them. Pour forth Your compassion and may it be seen by many. May all these people know they need a Savior and cry out to You and find grace to help in this deep time of need.

Can these storms be a rallying cry for unity in this nation? I ask it. May we leave our agendas and find ways to help. Father, have mercy.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.

Hurricane Harvey: A prayer for strength to recover and rebuild

*** Hurricane Harvey: A prayer for strength to recover and rebuild
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

I cannot imagine the grief these people feel as they return to their neighborhoods. What is it like to approach their street, their homes, and their businesses? Many do not have a home to walk into for there is only a heap of wood, stone, and glass. Many have lost everything that was the work of their lives...and many are grieving the loss of their loved ones and their friends.

Many lives have been taken, and many lives have been ruined. The path to rebuild seems impossible. I cannot fathom the devastation. And I cannot imagine what it is like to consider the cleanup and the rebuilding for months and years to come.

We need You. We do not understand. We cannot make sense of it. We need You.

Father in heaven, I put my trust in You to walk with them. Make Your presence tangible as they return to their street, to their addresses. As they behold the devastation, I am trusting You to uphold them. Hold onto their hearts as their hearts sink at the destruction.

Father, the devastation is so widespread. It is everywhere people look; it is in every direction. Please embrace them, strengthen them and encourage them. Help them to see progress, even if it is small, may it encourage.

Father, so much help is needed. Urge people who can go to go. Urge people who can give to give. Pour out Your wisdom to those receiving these resources so they are used expediently and wisely. Establish processes that are efficient and let there be no waste. Establish systems to process resources so they hastily find their way to those in need.

Pour out Your Word in these neighborhoods. May it encourage, invigorate, and strengthen. Guide and direct the helpers that are dispatched. Give them a demeanor that upholds these people. Even in their grief, Father, may there be song. Even in the grief, may there be a knowledge that You are there.

As for those who would take advantage of this situation, who would steal the funds that are given, and even steal from houses that are temporarily abandoned, Father, deal swiftly with them. Deal with them quickly. Expose them and have no mercy.

Raise up Your testimony that You are the Lord. Many are asking how a loving God could allow this kind of devastation. Father, it is a reasonable question! Many are asking for You and many are asking about You.

You are more than a reasonable God —while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. You alone know Your reasons for allowing this. At this time, for these people, it is difficult to see purpose or purpose that leads to good. The devastation is so great that is unreasonable to imagine a loving God. Help Lord.

Father, inasmuch as we cannot find purpose in the magnitude of what has happened, help us cling to You and to Your Word. Help us to seek You intentionally. Help us to incline our spiritual ears and see with sharp spiritual eyesight.

Speak life and health to these people and their beloved animals. Keep their hearts and minds diligent. Weep with them; console them and bring comfort. Uphold them to diligently turn to You for courage and strength.

Convict all of us to help in what ever way we can, through our presence or our offerings. Help us all, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.
