Hurricane Harvey: A cry for help and unity

***A cry for help: Hurricane Harvey
Isaiah 25:4
For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.

Psalm 61:1-3
Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

You are the God of Creation and nothing happens outside Your permissive will. You have permitted this storm and know every person who is experiencing it. There is nothing outside of Your knowledge. You are omniscient. You hear every cry and You even hear the silent fear that saturates our minds. Thank You.

The storm of Hurricane Harvey rages against the Texas coast and inland. You are the only true shelter and Your Truth leads us to higher ground. Father, we need the higher ground now —literally. Please help those caught in this storm to move quickly to safety and do so in an orderly and courteous manner.

Father, move in the hearts of each person and organization that can help in this time of need. May Your compassion flow freely and may hands of care be extended. May those that should "go" be immediately dispatched. May those that can give, do so speedily. Father, for all the funding and resources that are gathered, may the people in charge of them be careful, competent and full of wisdom to "divide rightly" and in accordance with Your standards.

As the storm surge saturates the coast, may we experience a surge of unity and care for each other. Surely during times like these, people are aware of their helplessness. May their need cause their eyes to be opened and to see Your hand of help. Lead them to the Rock that is on higher ground. Father, may Your presence be sought, felt, acknowledged, and proclaimed.

Father, in a divided nation, is it possible that this can unite us? I ask it. May we put down our divisiveness and look past our anger, hatred and fear, and pull together as a nation? May black and white disappear and may people see the humanness that You have placed within us as a basis to extend grace and mercy —help in time of need? Create a storm surge of stories that magnify YOU!

I pray that insurance companies do the right thing! May compassion flow freely and may representatives of these companies respond quickly and rightly as if they were directly ministering to You. May You be pleased with these businesses and bless those that act righteously.

Father, may this storm cause eyes to be opened and hearts to change. As people see their helplessness and better understand their weakness and hopelessness, may they turn to You and cry out. Hear their prayers O God who has ears to hear! I plead with You to create testimonies that permeate the news that repeatedly say,
"From the end of the earth I cried to the Lord. He heard my cry and delivered me to higher ground."
And may the people say, "Amen."

Father, glorify Yourself through Hurricane Harvey. May those who experience this storm, every one of them, be made aware that You are the True and Living God who created the heavens and the earth and may they bow low in their hearts and acknowledge that only in You is there hope.

Help us, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.
