Hurricane Harvey: A prayer for strength to recover and rebuild

*** Hurricane Harvey: A prayer for strength to recover and rebuild
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”
Please pray with me:

Heavenly Father,

I cannot imagine the grief these people feel as they return to their neighborhoods. What is it like to approach their street, their homes, and their businesses? Many do not have a home to walk into for there is only a heap of wood, stone, and glass. Many have lost everything that was the work of their lives...and many are grieving the loss of their loved ones and their friends.

Many lives have been taken, and many lives have been ruined. The path to rebuild seems impossible. I cannot fathom the devastation. And I cannot imagine what it is like to consider the cleanup and the rebuilding for months and years to come.

We need You. We do not understand. We cannot make sense of it. We need You.

Father in heaven, I put my trust in You to walk with them. Make Your presence tangible as they return to their street, to their addresses. As they behold the devastation, I am trusting You to uphold them. Hold onto their hearts as their hearts sink at the destruction.

Father, the devastation is so widespread. It is everywhere people look; it is in every direction. Please embrace them, strengthen them and encourage them. Help them to see progress, even if it is small, may it encourage.

Father, so much help is needed. Urge people who can go to go. Urge people who can give to give. Pour out Your wisdom to those receiving these resources so they are used expediently and wisely. Establish processes that are efficient and let there be no waste. Establish systems to process resources so they hastily find their way to those in need.

Pour out Your Word in these neighborhoods. May it encourage, invigorate, and strengthen. Guide and direct the helpers that are dispatched. Give them a demeanor that upholds these people. Even in their grief, Father, may there be song. Even in the grief, may there be a knowledge that You are there.

As for those who would take advantage of this situation, who would steal the funds that are given, and even steal from houses that are temporarily abandoned, Father, deal swiftly with them. Deal with them quickly. Expose them and have no mercy.

Raise up Your testimony that You are the Lord. Many are asking how a loving God could allow this kind of devastation. Father, it is a reasonable question! Many are asking for You and many are asking about You.

You are more than a reasonable God —while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. You alone know Your reasons for allowing this. At this time, for these people, it is difficult to see purpose or purpose that leads to good. The devastation is so great that is unreasonable to imagine a loving God. Help Lord.

Father, inasmuch as we cannot find purpose in the magnitude of what has happened, help us cling to You and to Your Word. Help us to seek You intentionally. Help us to incline our spiritual ears and see with sharp spiritual eyesight.

Speak life and health to these people and their beloved animals. Keep their hearts and minds diligent. Weep with them; console them and bring comfort. Uphold them to diligently turn to You for courage and strength.

Convict all of us to help in what ever way we can, through our presence or our offerings. Help us all, that we may stand strong and that we may be found faithful in the day of His coming.

In Jesus’ Name.
